Ticketpass takes major step in mission to eliminate ticket touts by launching fair and friendly resale platform

The ethically run event management platform, recognisable for giving 50% of booking fees to charity, has now made the selling-on of tickets fairer for all. The launch of its new resale function delivers upon the business’ original mission of trying to eliminate touts. This means, ticket holders can resell up to face-value cost , or pass on their ticket(s) to somebody else. All with a few clicks.

This latest feature adds to a selection of other tools already available to event managers — be it a yoga instructor or major festival organiser — built to make the ticketing experience fairer and friendlier for everyone. Think of it as a one-stop-shop for event management. Organisers might also want to take note of fanbase tools, live streaming and seat-mapping.

Rodrigo Bautista, the founder and CEO of the platform says: “Ticketpass organisers now have access to their own face-value secondary marketplace. Ultimately, this means selling more tickets, as customers have the opportunity to resell or share their tickets when they’re not able to attend. Given issues Covid-19 presents, organisers need to be providing this level of confidence to attendees.”

Changing the game

For a long time, the conversation around ticketing has been solely about a secondary market filled with overpriced tickets and rip-off sellers. Touts have been able to freely buy tickets and sell them at extortionate rates. By empowering the ticket holder with this new step — being able to resell or pass on a ticket — Ticketpass wants to help eliminate that negative entity within the events industry.

“In recent years, the resale industry for ticketing has been nothing but a frustrating experience for fans of music and sports”, says Darren Connaughton, Ticketpass’ head of customer success. “We need to make it impossible for anyone to make massive profits from the resale of a ticket for an event, as genuine fans are the losers in that existing process.”

By adding this simple resell / sharing component – allowing ticket holders to make their tickets available to others at no more than face value cost, or allowing them to pass their ticket to another user – fans receive a better experience. It means no more dealing with overpriced tickets and touts. Instead, they’ll interact within an ecosystem that is fair, friendly and social.

Combined with Ticketpass’ Give Back 50 initiative (where 50% of booking fees from tickets are donated to charities chosen by organisers and / or attendees) and 360 event management tools, this new resale marketplace is expected to change people’s perception of the ticketing experience. The Ticketpass team believes the industry should be built on trust and transparency. This new product is.
