Event Technology Awards 2023 Judge Spotlight: Dahlia El Gazzar

Dahlia has an OMG-attitude about all things eventtech and experience design. She’s her own brand, with more than a decade of experience in the meetings and events sector, working on both the professional planning side and as an association collaborator, Dahlia is known as the coffee-fuelled ‘go-to’ source for trend-setting solutions, eventtech news, and professional branding expertise.

How long have you worked in the events industry?

If I tell you that I will have to kill you :) – more than the apple nanopod 😂

What is the proudest moment of your career?

The proudest moment of my career is when I took my kids to work with me at a tech bar for a huge medical conference and they were able to troubleshoot the event app with the attendees, help delegates with their social media, and see their mom up on stage empowering attendees during a session about their personal brand and owning it.

If you didn’t work in events – what would you be doing?

Empowering teenagers to stay away from tech and social media, and listen in to their inner strengths. And also help them with stellar communication skills.

Who inspires you professionally?

So many people to name. My mission is always surround myself with those that can help me thrive emotionally and intellectually, but also who don’t deplete my energy. Energy and time are huge personal assets right now. Also, hang out with people that will make you live and laugh longer!

Have you ever won an award (personal or professional)? If so – how did it make you feel?

Winning an award for example, the ETL Tech Evangelist award makes me feel and think – so how am I going to pay it forward? How will I make others feel as amazing and kick ass as I do right now. It’s a domino affect for sure.

Do you feel that event organisers views of event tech have changed in the past few years?

Yes they definitely have. Event organizers still think of the tech first, and strategy will follow. We are in a fast era where you need to think big, strategize in a huge way, and then the tech. We are unfortunately also entering into a time where tech companies have not delivered as they said they would, and the credibility is something that event organizers are having a hard time dealing with.

What was the last event on which you worked?

We just finished 5 shows back to back, where our team was onsite. NIC [National Investment Center], PMI Global Summit, SFP 2024, IMEX, and AAP

What was the last piece of personal tech that you purchased?

blue tooth lav mics – so I can interview my peers on the fly :)

The Event Technology Awards are celebrating their eleventh year and will once again recognise the achievements of companies delivering digital and technological solutions to the events industry. Winners will be crowned at a ceremony on the 15th of November 2023 after day one of Event Tech Live London.
