Meet the speaker: Rachel Stephan

Rachel is an event marketing strategist, event tech startup founder and industry speaker on topics that cover event marketing and influencer marketing. When meeting planners and association professionals need to get more butts in seats, they call Rachel! She is a force to be reckoned with, whipping up creative solutions to event marketing challenges for 19+ years. Always looking for new ways to supercharge attendee acquisition, she used the experience from hundreds of campaigns to pioneer a new chapter in event marketing: the award-winning snöball event influencer marketing platform. The secret to her success – fueling clever, cutting-edge digital marketing tactics with the human-2-human values that the events industry is based on.
  • How long have you worked in the events industry and what keeps you interested in it?

I was introduced to the event industry at my last job which led me to start, in 2001, my own marketing agency focused solely on marketing events and conferences globally. Then again in 2017, I founded Snöball, an event tech startup focused on audience-let marketing.

  •  Best (and worst?) moments working in the events industry?

The best part of this industry is the people. I have met amazing, generous, and warm people along the way. In addition to that, the pure magic and energy of seeing people come together at events never lose its impact.

What was the last event on which you worked?

At Snöball, I work daily on many events daily, and each different than the other. The most recent one is World Vaccine Congress, which can’t come at a more convenient time. It goes to show that when the content and event are relevant to its audience, the impact of the message and marketing amplification happens organically. We simply channel that audience power to help amplify the reach and event growth.

  • From your experience, what’s the best way to utilise tech at an event?

The best use of tech is when it blends easily with the user experience, so much so, that you forget about the tech.

  • We all learn from our mistakes! What was the biggest lesson you learned from a mistake since being in the industry?

Waiting for the right time and perfection before jumping ahead.

  • What are you most looking forward to at Event Tech Live?

Discussions, exchange of ideas and best practices, telling Snöball’s story and how it helps organizers take back time and tap into the one event marketing strategy they are most likely overlooking: their own audience as a new marketing channel.

  • What do events, such as ETL, mean to you?

Community. Peers, a place to exchange and collaborate.

  • What can our delegates expect to take away from your session at ETL?

I am part of a couple of panels and the focus is on community-led marketing and how to grow and nurture that relationship year-round.

  • Which one piece of tech couldn’t you live without?

    My phone.

  • Most pointless tech you have purchased?

I am a very practical person lol can’t say I purchased anything useless.
